Enrollment Process
Due to the high demand, Cascade Heights Public Charter School has established the following steps for entering the lottery for enrollment:
- Complete an application form (found on this Website) and submit by mail, fax or hand delivery to the office: 13515-A SE Rusk Rd, Milwaukie OR 97222, fax: 503-653-1026
- You do NOT need to be present at the lottery for your child to participate.
There is one lottery a year for the following school year. At that time all kindergarten applicants will be selected through the drawing. Twenty-five will be drawn for the class. Families accepted into the class will be notified by mail. If there are more applicants than openings for a class, the rest of the applicants' names will be placed in an open drawing lottery "pool".
For example: A class is full with 25 students. Two students leave the class. Two students will be drawn and move into the class from the lottery "pool". When a family is notified that a place has opened in the class, we allow 24 hours for a decision to accept or decline the position. If we do not hear from the family within that time period we draw another name.
Lottery drawings are held at school office building, 13515-A SE Rusk Rd, Milwaukie. Everyone is invited to attend.
The process of the lottery:
- Applicants are grouped by the grade they will be joining in the fall.
- All applicants for a grade are then divided into three groups for drawing.
- Siblings of children currently enrolled are drawn first.
- Children who reside within the North Clackamas School District #12 are drawn next.
- Children who live OUTSIDE the North Clackamas Boundaries are drawn last.
- If there are openings in the class for the following year (students not returning), those are filled first with names drawn. Note: Kindergarten will always enroll 25 "new" students since it is the first class, while other classes may only have two or three openings because the classes are filled with returning students.
- Preference IS given to in-district families.
Note: sibling preference takes effect once one child in the family is accepted into a class. The other children who were on the wait list then move to the sibling wait list, which is ahead of in-district and out-of-district wait lists. Please remember, wait lists DO move, but we can never predict when or where.
