My name is Carrie Blake. I am the 8th grade teacher here at Cascade Heights. While this is my first year teaching at CHPCS, this will be my 30th year teaching all together. I have taught Kindergarten through 8th grade, with my favorite grades being middle school. I just recently moved here to Oregon, from California, where I was a 5th generation Native Californian, my family having been ranch owners, Gold Rush doctors, blacksmiths, boarding house owners, and executives with Wells Fargo bank in San Francisco. I grew up and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area until five years ago when I moved to a tiny town in the Sierra Nevada, between Tahoe and Yosemite.

I have two amazing grown children. Justice, who’s 24, lives in Portland, and is a preschool teacher. Tredan, who’s 21, is a senior at UCLA and also works full-time as a HR Manager at a Chick-Fil-A. I love ethnic food, anything outdoors, exploring new areas, Netflix, especially foreign films, and reading. I have degrees in Ethnic Studies, Multicultural Education, Forensic Psychology, and Health Psychology: Trauma and Resiliency.

During their time with me, 7th graders, will be exploring various aspects of history: The Russian Revolution, World War 1, World War 2, the Great Depression, the 1920’s and the New Deal, world geography, Spanish-American War, how America became a world power, and the significance of urban environments. For science, we will be studying atomic structures and chemical building blocks, chemistry, the four elements, acids and bases, paleontology, geologic eras, evolution, and an Oregon project. For math, we will be covering geometry, fractions and decimals, graphing inequalities, scientific notation, and nonlinear equations. And finally, for ELA, among other things, we will be reading The Necklace, The Tell-Tale Heart, Code Talker, The Time Machine, The Tempest, Jekyll and Hyde, and the Diary of Anne Frank.
