Eighth Grade
My name is Carrie Blake. I am the 8th grade Homeroom and Middle
School Social Studies teacher here at Cascade Heights. This is my 4th year teaching at CHPCS, and my 34th year teaching all together. I have taught Kindergarten through 8th grade, with my favorite grades being middle school. In 2022, I moved to Oregon, from California, where I was a 5th generation Native Californian; my family having been ranch owners, Gold Rush doctors, blacksmiths, boarding house owners, and
executives with Wells Fargo bank in San Francisco. I grew up and lived in the East San Francisco Bay Area until 2019  when I moved to a tiny
town in the Sierra Nevada, between Tahoe and Yosemite, named
Mi-Wuk/Sugar Pine.
I have two amazing grown children. Justice, who’s 27, lives in
West Linn, and is the director for an after-school program in the
West Linn school district. Tredan, who’s 24, graduated from UCLA
with a degree in Political Science, and is in a 3-year Leadership Development Program for Chick-Fil-A in Atlanta, Georgia. I love ethnic food, anything outdoors, embroidering, gardening, exploring new areas,
Netflix, especially foreign films, and reading. I have degrees in Ethnic Studies, Multicultural Education, Forensic Psychology, and Health Psychology: Trauma and Resiliency.
During their time with me, all middle school students will be exposed
to a 3-year rotation of Social Studies Curriculum. Year one is American History and Government. Year two is Geography and
Ancient History Part 1 (currently being taught and includes Ancient
China, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, Judaism, Christianity, and Ancient India). And year three is Ancient History Part 2 (Byzantine Empire, Islam, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Enlightenment, Mezo-America, and Southeast Asia).
8th Grade Homeroom includes Health, high school tours, Career Week, a service project at Ft. Kennedy, Beginning-of-the-Year School Team Building Sleepover, high school readiness, survival skills, and the
End-of-the-Year Crater Lake Trip.
